Welcome Members

July has been hot, sunny, and breezy - excellent yachting weather and our members took to the water.   The first One Design Race day in July had nearly twenty boats racing.  The second July race day had fewer boats but lots of wind.  Our one Design Regatta should be underway when this issue of Trident arrives.  Seventy yachts were on the line for the Crocker Memorial Race including race winner, the 12 Meter, Valiant.  Several MYC boats participated in Marblehead Race Week.  Ladies sailed every Wednesday afternoon in nice breezes.  Our Junior-Senior Vaughan Challenge Race was held at month end.  Remote controlled RC Lasers were out in July fighting fluky in-harbor winds.

The harbor has thinned out as members head off for summer cruises.  Our Narragansett Bay Cruise had a couple of lovely rendezvous along the way and a dinner and tour at the Herreshoff Museum.  The MJYC had and active July with Kayak Races, a Sunset Cruise and Cookout, Arts and Crafts and finished up the month with their Mid-Summer Dance.

July shore-side Club activities were very well attended.  Sunday Socials filled the deck with members every weekend.  The Crocker Race awards and chowder had the largest turnout for that event in years.   The Sea Shanties and Stargazing Gam was held at month end.

In August, the Club is very active with in-water and social activities.  Our One Design Regatta kicks off August events.  There are two additional One Design race days in August.  There are two rendezvous in Maine -- one at Ex-Commodore Shuman’s home on the Sheepscot and one at Bold and Devil Islands.  Wednesdays are Ladies Sailing Days featuring the Crocodile Cup mid-month.   Sunday Socials continue every weekend this month and there is a Small Boats on Floats Gam early in the month.  MJYC August activities include a Summer’s End Dance and a Make Your Own Sunday event.   Many of our members are participating in the Manchester Harbor Boat Club’s annual fishing tournament.

August is a wonderful month for boaters.  Enjoy your time on the water and at the Club.

More details about these and other events are found in the August Trident.   Please click here for the full issue.
