Summer Cruise: Blue Hill Bay - August 10 to 20, 2009
The Blue Hill Bay Cruise is well underway in the planning stages. Our hope is that many new cruisers will join experienced hands for this classic Downeast cruise. For those with small children, it is typical to enlist the help of crew to get the boat East and home at the end of the Cruise, arranging for others in the family to travel up and back by car. Now is a good time to line up crew! If you are looking for crew or a ride to Maine, contact Charlie Newhall, Roy Mayne, or Mike Maginn.

SUGGESTIONS FOR CRUISING
To prepare, we would suggest buying a copy of the 5th edition of A Cruising Guide to the Maine Coast by Hank and Jan Taft and Curtin Rindlaub. This "bible" for sailing the waters of Maine was originally published in 1988 by the Tafts and is now written and updated by Rindlaub. It provides practical information about ports, good places to anchor, and interesting sidebars of history, ecology, and the like. The book is available at specialty bookshops (such as F.L. Woods in Marblehead) and online at http://www.mainecoastguide.com/.
Although there will be a Cruise booklet with port information, having a copy of "Taft" aboard is a must. It is also worth considering joining the Maine Island Trail Association (http://www.mita.org/) which provides access to many of the smaller islands and a well-crafted useful guidebook. Both books are enjoyable to read aboard.
