Greetings all One Design Racers (both current and prospective):

We are looking forward to the 2011 summer season of active, friendly one design racing competition. Our first race is scheduled for June 19th.  We have one design racing roughly every other Sunday throughout the season in two series. The dates are Sundays, June 19th, July 10th and 17th, August 14th and 28th and Monday, September 5th. First gun is at 13:00 hours each day. Please see the Sailing Instructions on the MYC Racing web pages for important instructions and details. We are always looking for more boats and crew to race with us. A typical race day involves about three hours of on the water time. Followed by a MYC Sunday Social on the clubhouse deck! Both young and old – teenagers and adults – come out and join us. This is a low pressure fun environment, where you can go home with some silver!

The season also includes a mid-summer two-day regatta. This is the third annual One Design Regatta Weekend and is a fun weekend of one design racing, which also hosts several social events. This year’s regatta is on July 30-31.  First gun is at 10:00 hours on Saturday, July 30th. Advance registration is required and can be completed at the MYC Racing website at the listing for this event. Detailed Sailing Instructions can be found there also.

The first Sunday series starts with a Tune-Up Clinic on Sunday, June 19th from 10-12:30. The event is sponsored by the MYC Race Committee and is open to members and guests of either fleet. For this occasion, the fleets have retained the services of Coach Kevin Dooley, who is currently the Head Coach for the Manchester-Essex High School Sailing Team. He is an excellent coach and teacher with deep knowledge in one design racing. All one design racers are encouraged to come down and enjoy some on-water coaching on sail trim and racing tactics followed by a land review prior to an afternoon of racing. Coffee will be available on the dock at 9am. The event is designed to provide “pointers” to new and seasoned one design sailors and racers. So, come out and try your hand even if you don’t have a Megabyte or Rhodes 19. If you need a boat please contact either Fleet Captain.

The MSA Rhodes 19s have recently been put into great condition and are available for club members and their guests to race and use on most weekend days. There also is a Megabyte available through Schuyler Glidden, the Fleet Captain. The boat is used a great deal and is always on the course during race days.   Come on out and experience the fun of one design racing.Feel free to contact the Fleet Captains with any questions. See you on the water!
