Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) or ‘Perrrf’ racing is organized for all off-shore boats by providing handicap time over distance rating system to score a fleet of dissimilar boats. The Crocker Race is one of the most popular cruising canvas events on the North Shore each summer. The Patton Bowl and the Fall Series are combination events with both cruising canvas and racing divisions. The North Channel Race is headed to the MYC this year to win back the trophy. And, the Single-Handed race has added a double handed class to expand the fleet.
For those who can’t get enough racing, MYC is a member of Mass Bay Sailing Association, www.massbaysailing.org, which coordinates the schedule of most One Design, Junior, and Offshore events in Mass Bay. The $20 membership provides members with the MBSA book which contains the schedule and sailing instructions for most of the popular racing events. A number of MYC boats will be racing to Bermuda starting off Newport on June 18th.
PHRF skippers, you will need to obtain a 2010 PHRF certificate to participate in all MYC PHRF events, for both the Racing and Cruising Canvas Divisions. If you don’t have a valid certificate, please follow the instructions below.
PHRF Ratings - Required for all Racing and Cruising Canvas Division Entries
To keep the racing fun, fair, and friendly and to support handicap racing, the MYC Race Committee is requiring that all skippers have a valid PHRF rating certificate to score our events. Manchester now has our own PHRF Fleet with club members Andrew Sheriff as Governor and Paul McMahon as Handicapper. The handicapping process is simple:
- Download the PHRF- NE Handicap Application Form
- Open the PDF form and enter your information
- Call Andrew or Paul with any questions, or email andrew@newwaveyachts.com
- Print the filled out form and mail it to the PHRF Manchester Fleet, PO Box 253, Manchester, MA 01944 with a check for $30 payable to "PHRF Manchester Fleet."
Plan on 2-4 weeks to receive your new rating.
