To Race a cruising boat you need a PHRF Handicap Rating:

To keep the cruising canvas racing fair, fun and friendly and to support handicapped racing the RC would like to encourage (require) skippers to get a valid PHRF rating to score our cruising canvas events. Manchester now has our own PHRF Fleet with club members Andrew Sheriff as Governor and Paul McMahon as Handicapper. The handicapping process is simple:
     1. Download the 2008 PHRF NE - Handicap Application Form
     2. Open the PDF file and type your information into the form.
     3. Call either Andrew or Paul with any questions or e-mail your          questions to andrew@newwaveyachts.com.
     4. Print the filled out form and mail it to the PHRF Manchester Fleet          Governor with a check for $30.00 payable to: PHRF Manchester Fleet,          P.O. Box 253, Manchester, MA 01944.

Mass Bay Sailing Association:

MBSA coordinates the schedules for most One Design, Junior and Offshore events in Mass Bay area. The $20 membership provides members with the MBSA Book which contains the schedule and the sailing instructions for most of the popular racing events. MBSA members receive a $5 discount on race entry fees. The general sailing instructions for MYC PHRF handicapped races are in the 2008 Mass Bay Sailing Book. If you don?t have the book you can link to it and print the instructions on pages 54-63. You will also need the sailing instructions for the Patton Bowl (pg 22), the Crocker Race (pg 30), and the Fall Series (pg 49) - all MBSA events.
