New Race Committee Boat - April 2006
A group of seven traveled to Somerset, Mass. on Thursday, March 30, to sea trial the new Trident. She passed with flying colors. The boat handled well, even with the seven of us and the builder, Rod Fortier, aboard. All systems worked as expected, and we judged the fit and finish to be top notch.
Based on our review of the boat, we accepted delivery of her (and made the final payment to Fortier Boats) so shes now ours. A group led by Bill Barton will arrange to bring her to Manchester over the water when we get a favorable weather window in April.
Thanks again to the committee that brought this project to fruition: Gordon Abbott, Bill Barton, and Paul McMahon.

The Manchester Yacht Clubs new race committee boat is progressing well at the Fortier yard in Somerset, MA. Her construction began this fall and members of the Executive Committee and others have made several visits to the yard to observe construction and meet with the builder, Rod Fortier. Each visit is an opportunity to further refine the final design and assure that the Club ends up with a boat that will meet the needs of the MYCs racing programs for years to come.
Fortier also built the two new launches that the MYC has been using the past couple of years. The new race committee boat will have the same quality of workmanship and finish as the launches, and a local builder ready to stand behind the product.
The hull is molded, the engine is in, the deckhouse is on, the deck is on and all electronics, from Voyager Marine Electronics, have been delivered to the yard. Electronics include dual VHF radios, hailer, charting GPS, radar, wind and depth instruments.
The up-to-date navigational and communications gear will provide the race committee with the ability to quickly and easily set accurate courses while also providing a new level of safety for racers if any emergency occurs. The new boat will be able to cruise at 17 knots and is capable of speeds over 20 if required.
The boat will be completed well ahead of the spring season and she will proudly serve on the starting line when you come out to race this spring. Race Committee Chairman Paul McMahon states, The new boat will be the best possible blend of qualities to handle both the larger boats in the Cruising Canvas and PHRF fleets as well as our growing one-design racing program. If you want to spend some time on the water in this handsome vessel, please give me a call at 978-526-8945 or send an email to race@manchesteryachtclub.org. Otherwise, grab your tiller or wheel and we will see you on the starting line!
Well have the next update in early January.
For the Race Committee Boat Committee, Bill Barton, Chair
